چکیده

Some of the most data depauperate eukaryotic lineages live in the ocean and many plankton are known only from environmental sequences. A recent study adds two novel plastid lineages to our expanding understanding of marine biodiversity.

Unveiling new microbial eukaryotes in the surface ocean.

A decade after molecular techniques were used to discover novel bacteria and archaea in the oceans, the same approach has revealed a wealth of new marine eukaryotic microbes. The approach has been particularly successful with the smallest eukaryotes, where morphological and culture approaches frequently fail. Analysis of samples from the surface ocean, the most accessible and supposedly well-kn...

Methods to Estimate the Diversity in the Marine Photosynthetic Protist Community with Illustrations from Case Studies: A Review

We review the application of molecular methods to estimate biodiversity in the marine environment. All of the methods reviewed here, which are at the forefront of molecular research, can be applied to all organisms in all habitats, but the case studies used to illustrate the points are derived from marine photosynthetic eukaryotic protists. It has been accepted that we know less than 10% of the...

Addressing surprise and uncertain futures in marine science, marine governance, and society

On an increasingly populated planet, with decreasing biodiversity and limited new opportunities to tap unexploited natural resources, there is a clear need to adjust aspects of marine management and governance. Although sectarian management has succeeded in addressing and managing some important threats to marine ecosystems, unintended consequences are often associated with overlooking nonlinea...

Identification species of Demospongiae sponge at Assaluyeh Persian Gulf

The marine environment is a rich source of biodiversity and chemical compounds, and based on biodiversity knowledge, it is believed that the highest biodiversity is related to living organisms in tropical and semi-equatorial regions. The goal of this study was the biodiversity of Demospongiae sponge in Assaluyeh area in May 2018. Sampling carried oyu by using Coadrat in three sites with three r...

Comparative phylogeography of the ocean planet.

Understanding how geography, oceanography, and climate have ultimately shaped marine biodiversity requires aligning the distributions of genetic diversity across multiple taxa. Here, we examine phylogeographic partitions in the sea against a backdrop of biogeographic provinces defined by taxonomy, endemism, and species composition. The taxonomic identities used to define biogeographic provinces...
